The Mayor of Salford has officially launched a project to regenerate the Bridgewater Canal towpath at Eccles in Salford. Known as The Bridgewater Way, the project will see the improvement of one of the most historic sections of the canal, and will be the first step to improve the waterside route towards the historic Barton Aqueduct.

 

Mike Butterworth Property Director Peel Holdings welcomed guests to the Salford Launch, as well as introducing the community arts activities that have been taking place locally and are being co-ordinated as part of the Bridgewater Way Arts Partnership by Walk the Plank.

 

The Bridgewater decorated tricycle – and its newly created soundtrack composed by cyclists from Winton Wanderers Youth Club and musicians from Art Factory also made an appearance.

 

 

Partnership funding from Europe, the City Council, the Arts Council of England, Bridgewater Canal Trust and the Manchester Ship Canal Company has been secured to start work on the Bridgewater Way link from Patricroft Bridge (Liverpool Road) to Hall Bank Eccles, site of the first passenger railway crossing.
