The official opening of the first section of the Bridgewater Way in Trafford took place on 4th June. Representatives from Trafford Council, Peel and Sustrans gathered on the newly transformed towpath.

A section of the Bridgewater Way in Leigh town centre was officially opened to the public this week.
A section of the Bridgewater Way in Runcorn was officially opened to the public this week.
The opening of the eight mile section runs from Waterloo Bridge to Moore.

Opened on 17th July 1761, the Bridgewater Canal has a special place in history as the first canal in Britain to be built without following an existing watercourse, and so became a model for those that followed it.
